Ken Taylor Reynaga I Flowers That Bloom Twice

Brigade is thrilled to present Flowers That Bloom Twice, a solo exhibition by Ken Taylor Reynaga.

Through intimate depictions of daily life and the surrounding landscapes of California's Central Valley, Reynaga sheds a light on a region shaped by laborers who have crossed borders to work the land, forging a community which belongs both in the past and in the future.

In this body of work, Reynaga continues to develop his distinctive painterly language, characterized by thickly applied oil impasto and motifs that explore themes of identity, place, and resilience. Rugged mountain landscapes, pink horizons, emblematic cowboy hats, and flowers recur throughout the exhibition - each functioning as both formal element and symbolic device. In Man with Flowers (full moon), 2024, a figure in a cowboy hat inhales the scent of flowers spilling from his arms, under the light of the moon. In House in the Mountains, 2025, a solitary home rests on a riverbank between two peaks, suspended by the muted pink light of sunset - a moment of stillness held within an ever-shifting ground.

Since his 2023 exhibition with Brigade, the political climate surrounding migration in the United States has intensified, directly impacting the community he portrays. In Flowers That Bloom Twice, Reynaga invites us to see, remember, and reflect on the lives shaped by these shifting realities.

Ken Taylor Reynaga received his BA in 2014 from California State University. His work has been presented in solo exhibitions at Tatjana Pieters, Ghent, Belgium; Simchowitz, Los Angeles; The Mistake Room, Guadalajara; The Newsstand Project, Los Angeles; and Capital Gallery, San Francisco. His works have been included in group exhibitions at Jac Forbes Gallery, Malibu; Fort Gansevoort, New York; The Pit, Los Angeles; Ever Gold Projects, San Francisco; Steve Turner, Los Angeles; and Penske Projects, Montecito.
