Petra Cortright I soft stone under heaven exceeded trial period

Now open

For her third solo exhibition with Brigade, Petra Cortright (b. 1986, US) presents a new series of digital paintings on canvas. Drawing from her vast archive of found imagery, sourced from the ever-expanding terrain of the internet, Cortright employs the harvested material as her paint - each mark is meticulously added, overlaid, and folded into the final compositions.

soft stone under heaven exceeded trial period reveals a series of new landscape paintings: mountain ranges dissolving into seascapes, flowers clinging to steep rocky hillsides, cloud banks unrolling toward infinite horizons. These works are grounded in the formal languages of painting while imbued with the aesthetics of the screen.

While Cortright’s practice carries the sensibility of Impressionism, her medium is resolutely of the present - pixels, code and the subtle glitches of consumer software. Often referred to as a “digital Monet,” Cortright pursues beauty with clarity and conviction, inviting the viewer into a place where the natural and artificial can coexist.

We hope to see you for the opening reception today from 5 - 8 pm at Vesterbrogade 75.
