'Erased Past' a solo exhibition by Serge Attukwei Clottey (b.1985, Accra) is now open at Brigade. For the artist's first solo exhibition in Scandinavia, Brigade will present works in a variety of different media from across the artist's nuanced inter-disciplinary practice including pastel drawings on paper and linen alongside Clottey's iconic sculptures made from yellow gallon containers found throughout Ghana. Interested in exploring both personal and political narratives as they relate to patterns of trade and migration, Clottey's work is founded upon a firmly-held belief in the power of everyday objects. Drawing inspiration from mid-century West African black and white photography as well as Kente textile traditions, the artist's practice explores informal economic models based on the re-use of materials as well as the new abstract signifying possibilities that his specific formal language allows for.
