In two weeks Market Art Fair will commence and the gallery is looking forward to presenting a solo show with new works by gallery artist Coline Marotta. To gain insight into Marotta's artistic process ahead of the fair, we paid a visit to her new Copenhagen studio. Read her thoughts below.

"These works are somehow in continuity with 'Night Emails to Friends', though they have been made in very different settings, both geographically and mentally (Marotta's second solo exhibition with Brigade, from March 2023). I see the characters fading more and more into the environment they inhabit - they become waves, grass, rocky land, maybe even disappearing sometimes. They seem to balance between the desire to integrate better with their surroundings - and at the same time they experience a certain restlessness to do so. Light spaces working as shields and a darker palette in the far away live together in these works."

"The sources of inspiration are plural but the paintings always depart from witnessing the everyday life and its banality. They are linked to the personal, inner life too, they come from movies, texts, not night but daydreams. When I paint them I don't know much about them until they are finished, there is always a large space for improvisation, going back, making mistakes, painting over, being in doubt, changing routes, etc."
