Alejandro González I AM - PM: Viewing room

BRIGADE is pleased to share a selection of newly available photographic works by Cuban artist Alejandro González (b. 1974). These works are part of González's photographic series AM-PM from 2005. The series depicts nightlife along 23rd Street, one of Havana’s main arteries, highlighting a sector of society silenced by officialdom and only registered within a population census.

Alejandro González’s (b. 1974, Cuba) practice is concerned with issues such as individual freedoms, power and simulation. González uses the photographic medium as a tool to generate works of solid conceptual structure in tune with the sensibility of contemporary art. His series have gone from portraying subjects of discriminated minorities, to arranged scenes using actors, or representations of worlds meticulously constructed in his studio. In his most recent series, he uses metaphors that explore universal and timeless conflicts.
